30 Years of St. Mary's Polyclinic

Dr.Brigeetha In 2014, St Mary's celebrated its 30th anniversary. On this occasion, the founder and director of St Mary's Polylinic, Dr Brigeetha said:

“When I started, there was no plan to make St Mary’s as it is today, I started only with a desire to reach the needy persons. Persons with disabilities, women and children were our main focus. Our approach was very simple – comprehensive health care including promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services. Since this was a very poor area and health care costs are a big financial burden on the poor, I wanted to provide cost-effective, high quality, patient-friendly services through community oriented approaches.

I must thank God for guiding me on the right path. The spirit of Cappuchins also motivated me for serving the poor and the needy persons. Every time, I needed help, someone turned up at the right time with the right help. Finding right persons to overcome the obstacles was also important.

I must mention some of the persons and organisations without whom this journey would not have been possible. Cappuchins from Switzerland came in, they saw the need and without my asking, they brought help. Persons like Dr Lea, Bruno, Dr Enzo, Renzo and Margherita have been invaluable friends and supporters for a long time. Various international leaders, famous personalities, political leaders and national organisations have visited us and supported our work.
