 Milestones of Growth, Achievements & Accomplishments

Some important milestones of achievements and accomplishments, on the way of St. Mary’s Polyclinic’s journey of Serving and Caring for the Poor, are –


1984 - 1986

A small outpatient clinic opens at Kursi Road at the outskirts of Lucknow with limited staff of three only.

Four Beds and a small Laboratory added.

Mother and Child health activities including immunization and institutional deliveries begin.

Simple Dharamshala added.


1987 - 1989

Disabilities Programmes Launched with Community Based Rehabilitation.

Eye Camps Conducted.

Operation Theatre added with General OBS/Gynaec Surgery.

Bed Strength increased to 12.

Clinic converted into Poly Clinic.

The Society is a Registered.

Medical, Surgical and Pediatrics and Obs /Gynaec departments expanded.

X-ray Unit installed

Immunization work started in villages.


1990 - 1992

Full fledged maternity wing opened.

Pediatric Ward was added.

All other operations begin.

Beds increased to 30.

Staff increased.

Yearly Eye Camp conducted with the help of LIONS CLUB Lucknow.

Health Education in villages started.

Reconstructive Soft Tissue Operation Started with physically disabled .

Eye Camp with help of LION CLUBS Lucknow and Physical Disability Camp conducted on World Disabled Day with Mangalam.

Laboratory and different Departments expanded.

Low cost equipments added into Physio-therapy Department.

More Community outreach Programs were initiated.

Annual camp for the Physically Disabled on World Disabled Day was organized with Mangalam.


1993 - 1995

Operation Theatre renovated.

Dharamshala where the family members of inpatients could stay added with attached bathroom, garage and audio –visuals.

Physiotherapy department expanded.

Doctors quarters built.

Health Points in Nindura Block Barabanki district initiated.

Staff Hostel Added.

A separate OPD and Dental Unit inaugurated.

Subsidized treatment for TB Patients and

Concessional rates for reconstructive surgery introduced.

Intensive Care Unit opened.

India Mark –II Hand- Pump installed with the help of the Govt. for the Public.

St Mary’s Polyclinic is now a Referral Centre.

Free sterilization Camp was organized in remote villages.


1996 - 1998

Eye Camp was organized103 Patients were treated.

41 Cataract Patients were operated.

Dai Training Started.

Mobile Hospital with the Armada Jeep aided by the Hunger Project was inaugurated.

To rectify the continuous demand of disabled patients from distant places, a Canteen was constructed in the Hospital Premises.

For better Diagnosis of patients condition, need for ultra sound machine have been felt and USG Machine was installed with cost of 4 lacs.

First Computer purchased.

DAI Training Program was revised and Modular type of training has been provided through SIFPSA Project.

Six Hundred Birth Attendants of five Blocks namely-Rampur, Mathura, Kharmande, Siddhauli, Pahla and Kurwar were trained.


1999 - 2001

Installation of Auto Analyzer and OT Monitor for better diagnosis

CBR Project was started in Bakshi-ka-Talab Lucknow District with the total population coverage of 20000 in the first phase.

Full time General Surgeon was appointed.

To carry out Surgeries economically, Laparoscopic machine was installed.

First Car was purchased.

For better Diagnosis of patients condition, need for ultra sound machine have been felt and USG Machine was installed with cost of 4 lacs.

To provide quick service to patients and better record keeping, OPD was computerized.


2002 - 2004

New Ambulance was purchased

15 KV Generator Set was installed to reduce power shortage aided by NARMADA Foundation.

Gain Mariam Ward was renovated for safer mother and child care.

ECG Machine was gifted by NARMADA Foundation.

Reconstructive Surgery services were started with the support and coordination of SPARC India and DON - BOSCO Foundation.

Dr Brigeetha became the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Commission under the UP Government.

Renovation work of Male Ward post operative Room, Emergency Room had been completed and 30 new fully fledged Beds have been installed with the financial help of NARMADA Foundation.

To cater the medical facility to the needy patients from remote areas and to promote referral of critically ill and serious patients sub centre clinic at Nindura Barabanki District has been started.

Free medical Camps were organized at St. Thomas Mission School Janki Puram, Lucknow University New Campus, Madiaon ,Rasoolpur and Nindura.


2008 - 2010

St. Mary’s Polyclinic is nominated as the Regional Centre for BSS for North India.

For speedy investigation and diagnosis, laboratory was expanded with new advanced instruments with more well qualified staff.

St. Mary’s Paramedical Institution had received the approval from the UP State Medical Faculty and Allied Council to start Two Years Diploma Courses in Physiotherapy and Operation Theatre Technician Courses with the strength of 30 Students respectively.

In collaboration with Department of Psychiatry, KGMU conducted a General Practitioners Training Program as a Mental Health Program.

For better management of the disabled patients, the Physiotherapy Departments have been expanded with the installation of new advanced machines – like- ultrasonic, TENS and Muscle stimulators.

To mark the occasion of the Silver Jubilee Year of St. Mary’s Polyclinic, Smile –on-Wheels”, a fully equipped Mobile Health Van “has been launched in collaboration Smile Foundation, New Delhi.

The inauguration was done by eminent Film Maker Shri Muzzaffar Ali. The vision behind this Project was to provide access to comprehensive health care services for the most underprivileged population of remote ,rural areas ,particularly women and children, who are either out of reach from health care facilities or too poor to afford it.

NICU was inaugurated with the well qualified staffs and highly advanced equipments like Phototherapy machines, Baby Warmer, Vital Monitors, to take care of pre mature and sick babies.

St Mary’s School of Nursing has been inaugurated with approval from UP State Medical Faculty and Indian Nursing Council to run the General Nursing and Mid Wifery 3 ½ Year Course and Basic Health Nursing Program 1 ½ Year Course. Full Patient Services have been computerized in addition to the community activities in St. Mary’s Polyclinic, Clown Therapy was introduced .The idea behind the Project was to bring smile in the faces of people and help them to heal soon. It also gave us a medium to spread awareness among the people’s related health and other general topics.

Started Govt. Project like – Subhagyawati Yojana of NRHM Scheme under which all Smart Card Holders can avail free treatment upto 30000/- at St. Mary’s Polyclinic.

Construction of Hostel facilities has been started.

Free Scholarship has been distributed to 44 Children.

British Certification of ISO 9001-2008 for St. Mary’s Polyclinic and Paramedical Institute has been obtained.

First Annual Day Celebration was held on 27th February.


2011 - 2013

Voucher Scheme of SIFPSA “Sambhav” have been started to provide free ANC, INC,PNC and Family Planning Services for BPL Families.

Intensive Care Unit was expanded from 3 Beds to 8 Beds with all critical care equipments.

Fr.Peter and Fr.Norbert Memorial Free Mega Health Camp at GONDA was Organized. More than 15000 Patients participated and provided with free medications.

Registration under Section 80-G of IT Act was obtained.

New Surgoco 60 DHF(9”)C Arm Machine was installed.

Another New TATA WINGER AMBULANCE was added to existing Ambulance with the help of Namaste Onlus Association, Italy.

World Population Awareness campaign rally was conducted.

First Batch of ANM Students passed out successfully.

To meet the continuous demand of Renal Patients, Dialysis Unit was started.

The institution has been expanded with the construction of the Auditorium and two more extra Classrooms.

For the welfare of the community works, one more Maruti (Echo) Ambulance had been to cover existing 24 hours Ambulance Service System and it was donated by the SBI.

Fr. Peter memorial free Mega Health Camp was inaugurated by Prof Abhishek Misra, Minister, Science & Technology, Uttar Pradesh. More than 5000 patients benefitted from the Camp.

In Collaboration with the SMILE Foundation, Critical Support and Treatment for Small Children has been initiated.

Our Nursing students had participated in Measles Vaccination Duty in different Blocks of Lucknow District, with the permission of CMO Lucknow.

First Batch of GNM Students were passed Out.

Obtained Recognition from Indian Nursing Council, to start Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Program, with the Annual intake of 30 Students.

St. Mary’s School of Nursing has been promoted to St. Mary’s College of Nursing.

Affiliation obtained from Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University to run Degree Level Programme at St. Mary’s College of Nursing.
